Hello Friends,
Chris and I have been editing like mad over the last couple of weeks trying to shrink the movie down to two hours. This has been fun and maddening all at the same time. We love editing, thankfully. What is maddening is taking out footage that you become emotionally attached to. I was watching The Sixth Sense and the director M. Night Shyamalan, mentioned in the DVD extras that he literally cut his favourite scene in the movie to make it work. That comforted me… sort of.
I digress, as usual. This past week we received two pieces of great news. First of all, Kevin Barrett, one of the gifted musicians working on our music cut a song “On and On”. It is beautiful and poignant. It’s a privilege to work with a talented and humble artist like Kevin.
Secondly, Chris and I met with Hugh Vassos and Kim Gallucci of TCU Place to talk about November 10th. I can’t tell you what a thrill it is to work with Hugh. He’s a competitive, vision minded, football-loving person. Hugh knows so much more than Chris and I when it comes to marketing and selling our product. Kim has been extremely helpful, generous and encouraging of our film and it’s a pleasure to work with him.
This past Saturday, two days ago to be exact, we drove down to Moose Jaw to capture Glen Suitor’s voice on tape. Glen is narrating Season of Dreams for us. Jared Robinson, a singer/songwriter, music producer etc. has a sweet sound and video studio in his basement in Moose Jaw. Glen spent four hours reading our script and Jared captured his terrific voice for us.
As the music and narration
comes together the movie, notice I didn’t call it a documentary,
starts to feel big and significant. I have so much respect for
Glen, he was on air in Vancouver until 11:30 PM on Friday night, flew
to Regina on Saturday, came straight to Moose Jaw and worked with us
until 10 at night. He then drove back to Regina with my son Brett
and I in tow, worked on his commentary for the Riders until 1 AM and
was at Taylor Field early on Sunday.
At around 1 PM he met eight young men with watermelons on their heads
(Brett and seven of his friends) and was on air an hour later for TSN. Glen
is so Saskatchewan!
We have some more important news to share with you in the coming weeks and as usual, you’ll hear about it long before the average bear. Make sure to mark November 10th on your calendar. It’s going to be a very special evening. Being at the Labour Day classic again, for the second year in a row, reminds me anew that football really matters in this province. I hope this 7-2 start for the Riders just continues to get better and better.
Warm Regards,
Tom Simes
