Hi gang,
Chris and I are amazed at the melodrama surrounding football. In the last week and a half we've gone to three games that defy description. The first was the improbable comeback by the Hilltops versus the Huskies.
This past week we witnessed the Holy Cross Crusaders coming back from a 20-6 deficit in the third quarter to winning 27-20 with four seconds remaining. We interviewed Devon Istace, one of the players we're following from Cross who scored four touchdowns in the game. We mic'd up coach Rawlyk for the game and realized we want to mic up coach Paslowski the next time we cover a Holy Cross game.
On Wednesday Chris went to the Willows golf course to film volunteers being fitted for uniforms for the Potash Corp Vanier Cup. He also did an interview with one of the organizers (I can't recall what her name is).
Thursday I went to Hague to film the undefeated Panthers playing the undefeated Aberdeen team. The Hague Panthers won it in a cakewalk 45-8. I interviewed Jeff Fehr and Trenton (can't remember his last name) after the game and then I went to Bigway foods to interview Shane and Tyler Dueck's parents (they own Bigway). I was notified by a staff member that they were having coffee at the local café down the street so I got on my horse and headed down to the local café down the street.
I thoroughly enjoyed interviewing Rhonda and Eric Dueck, I just wish I would have left my camera on for the chat after the interview! They really gave me insight on what it's like to be a parent football fan. They still come to the Panther games even though they don't have any kids playing for the Panthers anymore!
Saturday we filmed the Huskie game and mic'd up Brent Schneider (quarterback coach) for the game. It was another barnburner and came down to the last six seconds of the game. Dan Houle, a Hague grad scored the winning touchdown. We interviewed coach Schneider and Scott McHenry after the game.
I ran into a former Huskie. Phil Guebert, uncle to Brian Guebert and principal at L.C.B.I. He shared his thoughts on six-man football and what it's like coaching in small town Saskatchewan. It was pure gold!
Wow, it was another jam-packed week of football and drama. I love this documentary and we haven't even started editing it yet! The next two months are going to be amazing. Talk to you soon.

p.s. I forgot to mention in my last update that we took some aerial shots of Hague's football field, Griffiths Stadium and Gordie Howe Bowl. The shoot was only possible because my good buddy, Shane Armstrong, who is currently teaching at Walter Murray Collegiate and formerly played for the Regina Rams under Mr. Currie, took Chris and I up for a plane ride. Shane is a terrific pilot and I want to publicly thank him for his generosity and thoughtfulness. Thanks Shane!
