November 6, 2006 Update

Greetings,

Pinch me, I can't believe it's November! This past week was bittersweet. The Holy Cross Crusaders lost a heartbreaking semi-final game to the Evan Hardy Souls. The Souls played amazing and to the Crusaders credit they never quit but it wasn't meant to be. It was very difficult interviewing Kyle (the middle linebacker) and Peter (a defensive tackle) after the game. They are both classy young men and handled the loss better than most adults would.

On Saturday we traveled to Central Butte, a little north of Moose Jaw (I think). Our Hague Panthers played the Central Butte Bulldogs. The stakes were huge, winner on to the Provincial final, loser goes home. We interviewed Troy Wist (2nd cousin of Gil Wist) before the game. He explained their spread offense, you had to see it to believe it. It looked like full contact touch football.

The Panthers scored early and often and built up a commanding but not insurmountable 24-0 lead. Just before half time the Bulldogs scored a long touchdown to cut the lead to 24-8. In the second half both teams came out hard and to the Bulldogs credit they never quit. With less than a minute remaining and the score 32-24 for the Panthers the Bulldogs started a long drive. They made it all the way down inside the Panthers ten-yard line but couldn't punch the ball in. We were elated for the Panthers, they've had two nail-biters in a row. We can hardly wait for the Provincial final this coming weekend!

On another note, Chris and his wife Kim along with my son Brett and I are traveling to Green Bay Wisconsin in a week and a half. We're going to interview Jon Ryan, punter for the Packers and film the storied Lambeau Field. We're also hoping and praying that we get to meet and interview Brett Favre (it's a long shot but that's what we're about). As well, we're traveling to South Bend Indiana with my big bro Ken. He lives in Naperville Illinois, which is about half way between Green Bay and South Bend. We've been give permission to film the Notre Dame Stadium and locker room. I think that's pretty cool.

Well that's all I have for this update. I'm thrilled for the Riders big win against the annoying Stampeders. It's a bummer that the Rams couldn't hold on to beat the Bison's. An all Saskatchewan Western final would have been amazing. Kudos to the Huskies for their big win. If we could script it, we'd like to see the Panthers, Huskies and Riders all win this weekend. Take care.
