November 3rd, 2007 Update

Hi Friends,

Today is a special day, and it has nothing to do with football. Twenty-nine years ago my wife Michelle (Mish) and I had our very first date. Man time flies when you're having fun! As usual, I digress. The promotion for Season of Dreams has been gathering steam day by day. I really like Hugh's (Vassos) approach to promoting the film. We started with a big bang, media conference, four or five interviews in the course of fifteen minutes and then a steady but not overwhelming stream of print ads. Now that we're getting close to show time the promotion is picking up steam.

This past week I was interviewed by 3 separate radio stations. On Wednesday morning I was interviewed by Steve Chisholm of Magic 98.3 as well as by Dave Thomas and Cristy Beggs of The Bull 92.9. These two interviews were more like one-minute sound bites to get the word out about our premiere on November 12th. Thursday afternoon I was interviewed by CBC radio. It was a gratifying but surreal experience. The gratifying part was the fact that the interviewer was really prepared. They had requested a copy of the movie to prepare for the interview and it was nice to talk more specifically about parts of the film that someone found moving. What was surreal about the interview was the fact that I was alone in studio. The radio host was talking to me from Regina. I was literally talking to a chair that was empty. For those of you who caught the interview you may find that tidbit fascinating.

On Friday morning John Gormley, Brent Loucks and Wray Morrison of 650 Talk Radio chatted about the movie and Wray had an interview with Glen Suitor, Glen was in Winnipeg for the Bombers game. The guys did a wonderful job of promoting our flick and the interview Wray had with Glen was gold. On Sunday (tomorrow) there is going to be a feature article on the movie in the Saskatoon Sun by Darlene Polachic. Darlene is a good friend of mine and has supported every theatrical project I've ever done. Thanks Darlene for the support! On Monday, Chris is appearing on Jeff Rogstad's noon hour show on CTV. He's going to show a clip of the trailer and talk about it. On Friday (November 9th) Chris and I are doing a half hour interview with John Gormley of 650 Talk Radio. The interview is from 11:30 AM to 12 Noon. I'm very excited about this interview because I like John's straightforward approach to interviewing and his high energy. I hope there are call ins for the show!

Ticket sales for the show have been very good as we're approaching the 1000 mark. That's amazing when you consider there are very few football teams that have taken advantage of the team packages. If you are connected to a team find out if they've bought a "group package", they will save lots of $ and give their athletes a chance to see a football film on the big screen, one that may have them in it!

A big surprise to me has been the number of people who have been accessing our website. Terry Ouellette, our webmaster, has been updating the reviews section almost daily as we get emails from across North America. People have been very moved by the trailer, and it's only three minutes long! Please check that section of the website regularly. We just got two really neat emails, one from Tim Micallef of The Score and another from a gentleman named Tom who gave us a link to a website dedicated to sports. This website did a stellar job of explaining our movie and went on to talk about the fact that what we're doing is unique in Canada. Well I've got to go. But before I do I wanted to mention how proud I was of B.T. (Brian Towriss) last night. His football team lost a heartbreaker to their provincial rivals, the Regina Rams. After the game B.T. was interviewed immediately by the radio station covering the game. His answers to the questions were heartfelt and honest and he finished off the interview by thanking the radio personalities for covering the Huskie games this year, pure class. That's the Saskatchewan way. Enjoy your weekend and give your kids and wife a hug.

Cheers,

Tom Simes
