World Premier Scores for Saskatchewan

The World Premier of Season of Dreams drew rave reviews from the near capacity crowd of 1,800 at Saskatoon's TCU Place this past Monday evening. The Five Stones Film Production captivated the audience with a real-life look at football in Saskatchewan from the six and nine man leagues in the rural areas right up to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Originally intended to follow the 2006 season of the U of S Huskies as they prepared for the first Vanier Cup to be played west of Ontario, the Saskatoon Hilltops as they played through their 60th straight year in junior football, and the Saskatchewan Roughriders as they celebrated the 40th anniversary of the 1966 Grey Cup victory; the movie soon became much more than that. It became an up-close and personal look at some of the players, the coaches, the fans, and even the families of those involved in the sport of football in this province. It provided a glimpse into the love affair Saskatchewan has for football and why the sport plays such an important role in our lives.

Co-producers Tom Simes and Chris Funk commented; "We will never forget this special night.we are extremely gratified with the response we received." This is the first time the film has ever been shown in a theatre on the big screen to an audience of more than a handful of people. For the duo, the almost two years of filming and editing suddenly became worth every minute. "We thank everyone who helped us with this film, including the many people we interviewed, for their encouragement and support. We are fortunate to be living our dream of making films that people want to watch right here in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan."

Hugh Vassos of the Vassos Marketing Group, the producer and promoter of the World Premier stated that "We need to take great projects like the Season of Dreams and show the world what Saskatchewan is all about and why this is such a great place to live. There is no reason why we could not stage an event like a World Premier in Saskatoon. I wanted to make the first screening of this great movie a huge event and 1,800 paying customers is as good as it gets anywhere! There's an emotional story told in this film that makes you proud to be from this great province. Football is part of Saskatchewan's cultural fabric that brings us together like no other sport."

Attending the World Premier were football legends George Reed, Bobby Jurasin, Al Ford, Ted Urness, Wayne Shaw, Steve Mazurak, and Brian Towriss. Saskatchewan Roughrider President and CEO Jim Hopson threw the support of the Riders behind the project by sponsoring the Producers and Legends Reception. Glen Suitor, former Rider and now football analyst with TSN Friday Night Football narrated the film and hosted the Premier. Ron and Jane Graham graciously supported the World Premier through a presenting sponsorship.

DVDs of the Season of Dreams are now available at the U of S Huskie Store in the Midtown Plaza and Market Mall and soon to be available online at www.seasonofdreams.com. You can also view a brief trailer of the movie on the site. A Saskatchewan Tour of the Movie and exposure to a national audience is currently in the planning stages.
