Hi everyone,
As the summer draws to a close "Season of Dreams" continues to heat up! We filmed the Hilltop opening game last Sunday, that is until the rain and hail came down in buckets! This past week we covered the Saskatoon High School Football Camp and interviewed Bill Eng, head coach of the Marion Graham Falcons, as well as Clay Kirby, Hague Panthers head coach, and four of his players attending the camp.
This past weekend we traveled to Regina. On Friday morning we interviewed Scott Schultz, Gene Makowsky and Matt Dominguez of the Riders. All three of these men were well spoken, humble and genuinely thrilled to be playing football for a living. Quite by accident we interviewed Corey Holmes, what a class act and we also attended Ron Lancaster's press conference. Glenn Reid, CBC sports reporter from Regina, was kind enough to give us ten minutes of his time and we interviewed him as well. Friday night we had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Gerry Thompson, former high school English teacher and coach, and currently the offensive coordinator of the Regina Thunder.
On Saturday afternoon we interviewed Mr. Gord Currie, former head coach of the Regina Rams from 1965-76. Gord was sharp, funny, philosophical, sentimental and charismatic. It's no accident he led the Rams to six national championships in twelve years. The interview lasted nearly an hour. Unfortunately we won't be able to use the entire interview for the documentary, it's just too long. Saturday night we interviewed Mark Lee, the play-by-play man for CBC football broadcasts. Mark is from Ottawa and he shared some valuable thoughts on the Vanier Cup coming out west for the first time.
In the weeks to come we're excited about the Hilltops 60th anniversary celebration and reunion as well as the start of the University and high school football seasons. Thank you to each and every one of you for your support and encouragement. We've been humbled by the doors that have opened for this project so far. Keep in-touch and we'll talk to you in a couple of weeks.
Regards,
Tom Simes
